The larger green R.O.B. puppet fighter represents the Ancient Minister, the leader of the R.O.B. Squad who is disguised in a large green cloak. The cyan, red, and default R.O.B. minion fighters each represent the members of the R.O.B. Squad, which includes the R.O.B. Sentry, R.O.B. Blaster, and R.O.B. Launcher. The stage is based on the Halberd, which was commandeered by the Ancient Minister and the Subspace Army, used to spread the Shadow Bugs during the beginning of "The Subspace Emissary". The R.O.B. Team starts the battle with a Bomber and the Screen Flip hazard reference the R.O.B. Squad's role to detonate the Subspace Bombs, which suck everything in their blast radius and into Subspace. The third battle condition references how the Ancient Minister is the only surviving member of the R.O.B. Squad to not be destroyed by the Subspace Bomb's detonation.
Leader of the R.O.B.s and the infamous Subspace Emissary, the Ancient Minister was Tabuu’s chosen agent to lead his campaign against this world, since Tabuu himself cannot leave Subspace. The R.O.B.s were, however, once peaceful, forced to build the Subspace Bombs under threat of Tabuu’s forces. The Ancient Minister exacts Tabuu’s will with robotic dedication, while deeply saddened at every R.O.B. lost.
