The battle is an approximation of the City Trial game mode in Kirby Air Ride, which takes place on a small island (represented by Wuhu Island from the Pilotwings stage). In that game mode, the Dragoon is assembled by collecting the three parts; the Dragoon has the fastest speed of any Air Ride machine in the game, reflected by the enemy's increased speed. The music The Legendary Air Ride Machine plays when riding the Dragoon in Kirby Air Ride. The spirit's Giant Killer ability references how Kirby uses the Dragoon to defeat the Subspace Gunship in The Subspace Emissary.
The Legendary Air Ride Machine itself, the only way to obtain a Dragoon in Kirby Air Ride is to collect all three individual parts. You have to do the same in Smash, with the parts appearing as items. Grabbing all three will allow fighters to launch into their opponents at high speeds, nearly guaranteeing a knockout. However, parts can be dropped if you take enough damage, so grab ‘em quick!
