The red Simon puppet fighter represents Gabriel Belmont, a member of the Belmont Clan who wears a red outfit and uses the Vampire Killer whip as his main melee weapon. The stage is based on the palaces from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, representing the castle from Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, which features Gabriel Belmont as the main playable character. Simon's favored Cross references the Combat Cross, an ancient weapon consisting of a cross with a whip-like flail used by Gabriel Belmont and his descendants in the Lord of Shadows series. Simon starts the battle with a Beam Sword, referencing the Void Sword, one of Gabriel Belmont's main melee weapons after transforming into the vampire Dracula in the Lord of Shadows series.
Earth has had its connection to the heavens severed, and the people think their gods have abandoned them. The Brotherhood of Light knows better, though, and they send Gabriel Belmont out to defeat the Lords of Shadow that besiege the land with monsters. Armed with the Vampire Killer, Gabriel will surely return light to the land... even if it means becoming a demon in the process!
