Squirtle represents Kine. The battle references Kine's enhanced swimming ability in the Kirby series. Squirtle starts with a Freezie, representing Kine's version of the Ice ability. The music track, Float Islands, is a reference to the music that plays in Ripple Field in Kirby's Dream Land 2, where Kine first appeared.

Appearing similar to an ocean sunfish, Kine offers Kirby help underwater, naturally being a much better swimmer than the Pink Puffball. He carries Kirby safely in his mouth, allowing him to inhale enemies while Kine moves through the waves. When Kirby gets a copy ability, Kine is also able to use it. Kine appears alongside Rick and Coo as a dream friend, gaining ice powers.
