The very first Metal Gear, ZEKE was developed by Huey Emmerich and Dr. Strangelove, directly commissioned by Big Boss and his army. It was intended as an unmanned deterrent to lend legitimacy to Big Boss’s fledgling mercenary state, but was modified and hijacked as a manned weapon. In order to stop a nuclear strike on the U.S. east coast, Big Boss was forced to render ZEKE unusable.
