The yellow Clear Inkling represents Phantoon, a giant boss resembling a yellow squid with the ability to turn itself transparent. The stage represents the Wrecked Ship, a ruined spaceship which serves as the location of Phantoon's boss battle in Super Metroid. The music track is based on the miniboss battle theme song from Metroid: Other M, which features the appearance of Phantoon as the secret final boss. The Hothead item references Phantoon's orange-and-yellow eyeball and its signature Phantom Eyes attack, which allows it to create eyeballs covered in flames. Other trivia: This spirit's Sticky-Floor Immunity ability references the Phantoon's ability to float, which makes it unable to touch the floor.
When Samus explored a Wrecked Ship on Zebes, the power was malfunctioning. Even the save stations weren’t working! It turns out it was because of Phantoon, an otherworldly specter who haunts abandoned spacecraft, feeding on electricity. Phantoon’s weakness is its eye, but you only have the split second it’s corporeal to attack!
