Delfino Plaza (Remix)

The yellow Rosalina & Luma and the Star items represent the Shine Sprite, a golden star-themed item with globular tips and simple black eyes. The yellow, red, and blue Kirbys minions each represent the three types of Coins required to collect a Shine Sprite in Super Mario Sunshine: the Gold Coin, the Red Coin, and the Blue Coin. The stage is set on the Shine Gate, a location at the center of Delfino Plaza, the main hub area of Super Mario Sunshine, which features a giant Shine Sprite effigy; this itself is replicated by Rosalina & Luma's Final Smash, which features a Grand Star, a collectible from Super Mario Galaxy that has a similar appearance to the Shine Sprites. The Temporary Invincibility rule gives Rosalina a bright and sparkling appearance, referencing the Shine Sprite's bright and sparkling appearance, which provides Isle Delfino with bright sunlight in Sunshine.
The source of all sunshine on Isle Delfino, they were spread across the island when Bowser Jr. (in disguise as Mario) polluted the Shine Gate with his Magic Paintbrush. Being blamed for plunging Delfino into darkness, Mario was tasked with cleaning up the island and reuniting the Shine Sprites.
