In addition to using the Shy Guy's mask itself, the Mii Fighters' low voice represents the Shy Guy's trademark low voice. The Mii Gunner with a Super Leaf references the Fly Guy, a Shy Guy variant with a propeller attached to their hood that allows them to fly through the air. The stage and music track reference World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros. 2, the game in which the Shy Guys first appeared.

Originally soldiers for Wart, Shy Guys quickly changed to sides to Bowser’s army. They usually work under Kamek to combat Yoshi in his own series of games. There are over 80 variations of Shy Guy, but none have ever shown their face. One has to wonder what he’s hiding under that mask...
