Bayonetta's smash attacks utilize Madama Butterfly, who shares similarities with Tabuu, which includes appearing as a giant blue humanoid, featuring butterfly wings, and inhabiting a dark dimension. Other trivia: This spirit's PSI Attack ↑ ability increases the power of psychic attacks, which often take the form of energy attacks, referencing Tabuu's usage of powerful energy attacks. In World of Light, the Tabuu spirit is located in the Mysterious Dimension, referencing Subspace, an alternate dimension of darkness inhabited by Tabuu. Also, the Tabuu spirit must be defeated to access Marx, the boss of the Mysterious Dimension map, referencing how Tabuu's moveset is highly inspired by those of Marx.
Ruler of Subspace and master of its army, Tabuu launched a campaign to engulf the world of Super Smash Bros. in Subspace. Using his chains of light, he controlled Master Hand, using it to manipulate Bowser, Wario, and Ganondorf into doing his dirty work. Battling Tabuu directly is a fool’s errand, as the powerful Off Waves he can unleash from his wings are near-guaranteed to K.O. any enemy.
