The yellow Kirby represents the X Parasite, a yellow blob-like enemy that appears multiple times on-screen. The stage's background references the beginning of Metroid Fusion where the X Parasites infect Samus's body while flying her Gunship, causing her to crash into an asteroid field. Kirby's favored Inhale allows him to swallow his enemies and copy their appearance and abilities, referencing the X Parasite's ability to absorb their victims and assume their appearances and abilities. Other trivia: This spirit can be purchased at Beedle's Tent, a shop which sells spirits related to living creatures, including the X Parasites. This spirit's enhanced form, Nightmare, features the Lifesteal ability, which steals the opponent's life force when the player lands an attack, further referencing the X Parasite's ability to absorb their victims and assume their appearances and abilities.
These gooey parasites are the reason the Chozo created the Metroids. If the X were allowed to propagate, they would infect, kill, and mimic the entire galaxy. When the B.S.L. Research Station was taken over in Metroid Fusion, we saw exactly what can happen, and just how fast it happens. Luckily, Samus can absorb the X with her Metroid DNA, making her the last Metroid.
