The tan Dog from Duck Hunt represents Yarn Poochy, the Yoshi's Wooly World version of Poochy, a brown-and-white dog character. The white, brown, and blue Dogs of Duck Hunt each represent the Poochy Pups, the younger versions of Poochy who feature different color schemes. The stage is based on Yoshi's Island, the main setting of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, which first features Poochy as an ally. The Lava Floor hazard and the second battle condition reference Poochy's ability to travel over lava terrains and defeat enemies by charging into them. Other trivia: This spirit's Shield type and Weight ↓ ability reference Poochy's immunity to hazardous terrains and ability to jump great heights. In World of Light, the Yarn Poochy spirit on Galeem's side of the Final Battle map matches with the Rouge the Bat spirit on Dharkon's side; both characters are treasure hunters.
The Yarn Yoshis are able to ride on Yarn Poochy, but the dog isn’t just a noble steed. He’s also able to collect items in his mouth and bring them to the woven dinos, including Wonder Wools! He even does a little dance when he does so. He’s adorable! Unlike Yoshi in the Mario series, Yarn Poochy will come back after defeat or falling into a pit, so don’t worry too much about losing him.
