The Spiky Pichu puppet fighter represents the Zapfish, a small, yellow electrical catfish who are found in multiple levels of the Splatoon series' series-player modes. The stage represents Inkopolis Tower, the tallest tower in the metropolitan city of Inkopolis where the Zapfish are used as the city's main power source. The music track is based on the music number performed by Turquoise October, an Octarian band whose species kidnapped and stole the Zapfish in the Splatoon series' series-player modes. Other trivia: This spirit's Electric Attack ↑ ability references how the Zapfish produce a powerful electrical current. In World of Light, defeating the Great Zapfish spirit in the Power Plant map in the Light Realm is required to obtain this spirit, referencing how the player must rescue the Zapfish at the end of each level in the SPlatoon series' single-player modes.
Not all Zapfish are great, but these ones are still pretty good. These little guys power all sorts of things in Inkopolis, but they, too, were taken along with the Great Zapfish. Each mission in your battle against the Octarian menace will see you recovering one Zapfish, and you’ll need them all to restore Inkopolis’s power supply. If you replay a mission, the Zapfish will be replaced with a homemade plushie. How cute!
